About the College
Our direction, our values, and the programme through which the college prepares teachers, coaches and sport specialists.
College of Physical Education & Sports
The College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at Al-Farabi University is among the developed and well-established colleges of physical education in Iraq — a major sporting institution that will graduate hundreds of academics, coaches and specialists in the field of physical education.
The college was founded in the 2025–2026 academic year. That first step was the assembly of a specialist team — teaching staff and administrators capable of running the college and carrying out its work in a way that ensures its objectives are met.
Graduates are awarded a bachelor’s degree in physical education. They are appointed as teachers on the secondary-school cadre, or work as specialists in sports training.
The college admits secondary-school graduates from most branches of study, both scientific and humanities.
In the near term the college aims to meet its objectives by graduating distinguished physical education cadres who contribute to building society in general and the sporting community in particular. Over the coming years it also intends to open postgraduate studies.

Dean’s Message
In keeping with the rapid development and expansion of Al-Farabi University — scientifically, technologically and structurally, across its colleges, its extensive facilities, its laboratories and its departments — and within a short span in the life of the university, it has come to compete with many long-established institutions, both public and private. In line with that, the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences was created at Al-Farabi University last year, in 2025–2026.
The college received at that time a large number of students compared with other colleges of physical education, owing to the distinguished scientific and practical reputation Al-Farabi University enjoys. We emphasise that the teaching staff were selected according to distinguished specifications, experience and qualifications, to work together so that our college is qualified both in the field and scientifically, and stands level with the standard that the reputation of Al-Farabi University carries.
My colleagues and I have pledged ourselves to work hard toward completing the various sporting facilities — indoor and outdoor halls of different kinds, along with the enclosed Olympic swimming pool and the fitness halls, soon, God willing. This is so that we may graduate specialist teachers possessing scientific competence and practical field ability, able to compete with the other colleges in teaching, instruction, coaching and scientific research, in accordance with the standards of university education in physical education — standards that rest on the most modern scientific and pedagogical methods for developing students’ various skills in individual and team games, and likewise in teaching, rehabilitation, scientific research and the other sciences.
This is in addition to preparing students for the sporting labour market: in clubs and sporting federations, in physical fitness centres, in health institutions, and in centres of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
We ask God to help us all in the service of the nation, of sport, of youth and of the generations to come. And God is the grantor of success.
